How to Shop For a Wedding Dress
I went on a total whim to a local bridal boutique after I heard they had wedding dresses on a clearance rack. At that time, I didn’t know what I wanted or what I was fond of in a wedding dress. All I knew is that they had the terms “clearance” and “wedding dresses” used together, so I felt like I needed to go see what they had.
After trying on two dresses, I found a dress that ended up fitting like a glove. No alterations needed. I thought this was my dress! I had the shop owner put the dress on hold for 24 hours.
That evening I told my fiancé about it. He asked me if I loved the dress or liked the price. Truth was, I wanted to save money and stay within budget, so I liked the price. I would have worn this dress, but it wasn’t my dress.
And now I was at a loss. I was proud of my efforts, but even more proud of my fiancé for making sure I got the dress that was supposed to be mine.
So I went back to the drawing board.
First, I needed to figure out what type of material I would be happiest with. Most of them I was pretty clueless about. I also needed to check out the styles and lengths of dresses.
I went and tried on a variety of dresses to figure out what my likes were. I easily decided that taffeta was the material for me! As for style, I wanted mine long and flattering for my body type. Sounds easy, right?
Secondly, I needed to narrow down my options based on the dress material and my budget. I decided to only try on dresses that were made of taffeta or that could be ordered in taffeta so that I wouldn’t be overwhelmed by all the other options out there.
After trying on many dresses, I did find THE dress.
It was…..perfect!
And it had pockets to boot.
I was saying YES to the dress!
