I grew up driving across Mobile Bay and admiring the skyline on the water. One of the pieces of the downtown Mobile area is the Holiday Inn tower and this landmark served as a wonderful place for LaToyia and Anthony’s wedding. Overcast skies filled the day, but the mood inside the modern decorated hotel was filled with anticipation. Family and friends filled the lobby areas sharing hugs and waiting for the ceremony to begin.
I really enjoyed photographing at this hotel. So many different looks all in the same area. The downstairs lobby had a warm classic feeling with a fireplace, sofas, and spiral staircase. The sky deck was decorated with cool modern furniture had a great view of the Mobile skyline and bay. The hotel rooms were bright white and nice minimal lines with tons of daylight streaming through the large windows, which is my dream look for getting ready pictures. Just outside the hotel there was a wonderful block of historic architecture. So many different backdrops for wedding party formals and couple portraits that it was hard to decide where to photograph. The bride loved the colors in the Sky View Lounge and so we used that space to photograph most of the intimate portraits. It was a quiet space to retreat to after the ceremony where the bride and groom could enjoy the first moments as Mr. and Mrs.
Decorators were preparing the reception venue and these sweet favor boxes jumped out at me.
Moments before the ceremony I captured some beautiful memories of the beautiful bride in her hotel room.
Portrait of the bride, bridesmaids, and flower girl after getting ready. The soft pink is the bride’s favorite color.
There were rose petals all over the venue and the bride carried a classic rose bouquet down the aisle.
The girls look so beautiful in the Holiday Inn ballroom.
Groom in all white taking some portraits in the hotel lobby. The symmetry in the lobby and outside light made for some great portraits.
The groom with his brother, nephew, and friends. This group was so relaxed and nice to work with.I hope this was not a serious phone call because the groomsmen had fun goofing around with their boy. The bride and groom chose not to see each other before the wedding. I’m sure he was very excited to see his bride.
The classic Holiday Inn ballroom waiting for guests to fill it with joy. The addition of the white aisle runner was a great choice for the venue.
This was the perfect ring bearer. The camera loved him. Look at this sweet boy putting on a show as he walked down the aisle. He made sure to wave to all the guests.
The moment this groom had been waiting for. He was so calm and collected all day. I know he will always remember this moment of looking at his bride for the first time.
Everything about this wedding dress was perfect for the bride. The veil and straps in the back worked so well with her hair style. The guests were excited to see the bride coming down the aisle.
The couple chose a traditional wedding sand ceremony. Represented by black and white sand they brought together two glasses of sand to live as one.
Pastor Washington really enjoyed leading this service. He made everyone smile with his words.
Once the formal portraits were taken in the ballroom, I loved seeing the wedding party having fun. Such a great day to enjoy celebrating with the bride and groom. The ring bearer was so animated the whole day as you can tell by his enthusiasm.
And the kiss.
Bride and groom giving sweet smiles to family and friends after the ceremony. After the family formals, we rode the elevator to the top of the hotel. I give my couples a little space after the ceremony to enjoy each other and capture candid moments together. The groom gently holding his bride’s hand in these early moments of their new life together. As a wedding photographer, I guide my couples into moments that feel natural. “Sit here and here. Hold each other like you would at home. Now give her a gentle kiss on the forehead.” Authentic and beautiful moments like this is what I’m hoping for.Another example of placing the couple in a neat location and watching them have fun with each other. The mobile skyline did not disappoint in this picture.Wedding day smiles are the best. This is another piece of modern furniture in the Sky View Lounge at the Holiday Inn.After the formal couple portraits, we went back downstairs to enjoy the reception. The DJ was playing soft tunes during dinner and I admired the cake in the corner. The addition of the cupcake tower was a nice touch to the dessert table.Another romantic first on the ballroom dance floor. The lighting with the chandelier above and my flash in the corner allowed for some unscripted photography magic.Listening to wedding toasts are fun for me. I get to learn more about the couple from their best people. This laughter came when one of LaToyia’s coworkers was sharing a story.I stole the couple for a few moments during the reception to capture a few intimate portraits. It was humid outside, but the historic Mobile architecture surrounding the hotel was worth the heat. One of my favorite portraits of the day. Thick green ivy climbing a Southern Oak and surrounding the couple’s love. The overcast skies allowed for soft natural light on their faces. Don’t they look great together!
A little sneak peek of Britni and Kenny’s The District Room Wedding in Tuscaloosa. Preview galleries are one of our favorite things to deliver to our couples. We usually text our brides a few highlight images the day after their wedding. Then, we deliver a preview gallery of about 50 images when they return from their…
Time to finish up my best of series for 2016. I still remember the day my wedding photographer did our engagement session. The day was sunny and cold. We held hands and laughed for hours. We were a little nervous to start, but that energy soon shifted to relaxed fun. When I photograph an engagement session,…
There’s something about fall weddings in Ohio that makes them feel extra special. The crisp air, the colorful leaves, and the romance that fills the atmosphere all come together to create a truly unforgettable day. Hunter and Allie’s wedding at Rolling Meadows Ranch in Lebanon, Ohio, was a perfect reflection of all the beauty that…
Sometimes you get connected with couples for reasons beyond your own understanding. This couple is truly special in how they live life and share their joy with others. I was able to follow Jessica and Jerad’s wedding story from beginning to end; the surprise proposal, the engagement session, and finally the wedding day. I go…
Before heading up for some work and family fun in Memphis, I met up with these two for an engagement session in Florence, Alabama. I met Rachel 6 years ago on a farm in a rural Alabama town. It has been such a privilege to watch her grow into the woman she has become and…
A sweet look back to Rachael and Mike’s wedding day. It was an intimate gathering of family and friends last fall. Everyone join together at the groom’s grandparent’s farm just outside of Montgomery. I enjoyed talking to Rachael over the phone before the wedding. She had a beautiful photography vision, and everything looked amazing on…
