How to Add Your Style to Your Wedding Day

This is part 4 of a memories series. Since your probably in the middle of planning your Birmingham area wedding, I thought it would be great to ask a friend to reflect on her wedding day. This bride looks at decisions she made for her wedding day planning and offers advice to keep you and your fiance focused on what matters the most–each other.

Okay ladies, raise your hand if you may have become a little Pinterest obsessed when wedding planning.

I see your hand.

I see your hand too.

Solidarity here.

Here’s the thing, I went so Pinterest crazy that I was beginning to lose sight of what I really liked. Let me explain.

I had found photos of beautiful bouquets and arrangements.  I was convinced that I wanted these flowers in my wedding.  It was more than roses and peonies.  These were elaborate in color and type of flower.  Some flowers I didn’t know the names of, but they were gorgeous!  I even took the photos to my florist appointment, priced them, and was on my way to making them apart of my wedding.

Then I had a bridal shower.

And everything changed.

The hostess decorated with daisies in simple glass jars.  It instantly reminded me…daisies are my favorite flower.

It was the wake up call I needed to making my wedding a statement of me and not Pinterest.

The following week I called my florist and changed my entire line up for the flowers and centerpieces. I went back to representing me in my wedding and my favorite things. It went from elaborate bouquets to simple white tulips, daisies with yellow buttons, and white hydrangeas.

This change made me smile and increased my confidence in my own wedding planning. Not to mention that it also saved us a lot of money in our floral budget.

Don’t get me wrong, Pinterest is a wonderful resource. It’s still my first go to for recipes and ideas for home decor.

And I’m still reminded that I can use Pinterest to guide me, but I don’t need to completely replicate what I see…..unless it’s a recipe.
