St. Florian Fiber Farm Wedding | Wedding Photographer in Florence | Monica + Harley
Harley describes his bride as a unicorn. Unicorns are said to be uncatchable but nothing is impossible. Harley was captivated by Monica the moment he saw her. Monica was focused on school and not interested in boys;). But the two kept bumping into each other and so their relationship began. Meeting through mutual friends and sharing a lot of time with their Florence, Alabama community, it was only fitting that they should be wed at Fiber Farm in Florence.
St. Florian Fiber Farm in Florence, Alabama is a great location for an outdoor wedding and reception. If you’re getting married in the Huntsville, Muscle Shoals or Florence area, this is a neat little venue to check-out. The property has a laid-back and homey feel and the outdoor ceremony area on the side lawn is simple and beautiful. The relaxed vibe continues around back where you can have your poolside wedding reception. Also, the interior of the home on the Farm has some great little nooks for getting ready and unique bridal portraits. This venue offers an intimate setting for large or small weddings.
Florence Wedding Day Details
Monica planned a beautiful wedding day. The decor was very natural with lots of greenery. She didn’t want a lot of colors in the details. She stuck with a minimalist palette of black, white, and gold. Then, she entwined greenery into the style. She envisioned a very simple and clean imagery and decoration for her wedding. She took advantage of natural greens and gold-painted decorations acquired through thrift store shopping. Overall she achieved a very classic and minimalistic look.
As the sun was setting Monica and Harley exchanged vows underneath the greens of the trees. A few of their friends and family added to the ceremony by performing a song. After the vows, Monica and Harley shared their first communion together as husband and wife. After the excitement of the first kiss, we spent a few minutes enjoying the sunset and photographing their first moments as newlyweds. Guests enjoyed tacos at the reception and the party continued into the evening.

Monica added some special details to her wedding day. Monica wore a beautiful veil with intricate lace. She loved her wedding shoes. Although I’m not sure you used them very much haha. Sometimes we just need to kick off those heels! Harley’s grandmother and aunt gifted the couple with a handkerchief and pocket watch.
We asked Monica that when she thinks of your wedding photos, was there one photo in particular that she’d been envisioning? She said that she was looking forward to her father walking her down the aisle. Also, the look on Harley’s face the first time he saw her. Overall, she most anticipated exchanging vows, the first dance, and the father-daughter dance.
The Bride and Groom
Here are a few questions I asked Monica and Harley during the wedding planning.
Q. How did you meet?
We met at a mutual friend’s birthday party in September of 2016. After that, we saw each other everywhere (church, school, coffee shops, hangouts), and eventually started studying together. Harley knew the only way anyone got time with me was if it was through studying, thanks to nursing school (:
We had been planning a trip to Greenville, SC, where I used to live and one of my favorite cities on earth. During our stay, Harley surprised me with a hiking trip with a couple of friends from Florence. It was the most difficult hike in SC, so we were well worn out. On the way down, we stopped for a break on one of the overlooks. Harley had me read a letter he had written. He always writes letters so I thought nothing of it. Then he popped the question and the rest is history (:
Monica’s answer: unwavering
Harley’s answer: life-giving
Monica: I love that neither of us even wanted to get married any time soon, but meeting each other changed everything. We were committed to loving each other well early on, and it has remained that way every day since. We let love be the motivator of all we do, and we stick up for each other like teammates.
Harley: One element I really love about our relationship is the depth of our perspective on how we are a team. We always have each other’s backs, we always go out of the way for one another, and we always pick one another up when the other is down.
Monica: a day trip somewhere outdoors, with a picnic lunch, some good music, and telling stories the other has not yet heard Harley: My idea of a perfect date is dressing up really well, eating a very nice dinner, dancing under the moonlit sky to something smooth, and watching a well-done play that we can discuss over a bottle of wine afterward.
recreational activities (hiking, being outside), day trips, taking photos, concerts, visiting family, and grocery shopping (:
